The Habit Trainer App is now available!
You can also use The Habit Trainer to Un-Train bad habits.
We tend to form habits, good or bad, in an attempt to meet certain gratifications or coping mechanisms in our lives. Over time, our thinking and/or physical tendencies from our daily lives form patterns to meet our subconscious needs that can come out in various ways. Actions that achieve even the slightest need-meeting potential are repeated, forming habits.
Identify a bad habit you want to get rid of. Here are some examples, but anything you want to quit doing can be on this list.
-Nail biting
-Smoking
-Focusing on the negative
-Tapping your finger/hands on the desk
-Worrying
-Playing with your hair
-Cracking knuckles
-Weird noises
-Shaking your legs
-Picking at yourself (Teeth, nose, ears, skin)
-Eating with your mouth open
-Loudly chewing gum
Once you have identified the habit you want to stop, think about how often you think you would need to be reminded to stop this action.
BE HONEST with yourself! If you need to set your intervals for every 3 minutes to catch your bad habit, DO IT. You will soon see that you can Un-Train a bad habit just like you can Train a good one and you can up your interval time until it is no longer needed!
Don’t get frustrated if it takes you longer than expected. Bad habits are usually harder to break than it is to train good ones.
Make sure you are consistent with this Un-Training every day until you have the results you want.
